Jaspersoft Studio

Introducing Jaspersoft Studio, the new Eclipse-based report designer for JasperReports and JasperReports Server. Eclipse developers can now build, secure, and share highly formatted reports using all open source BI software. This is just the beginning of several innovative Jaspersoft BI solutions for the Eclipse developer community.

Frequently Asked Quesitons

1. Why is Jaspersoft Doing this?
For years our community of developers asked us to support the Eclipse platform due to its popularity and capabilities. This feedback made the decision to build an Eclipse-based report designer easy. Jaspersoft users will benefit from the rich capabilities of the Eclipse platform and Eclipse developers will benefit from a complete open source BI stack to build and deploy their reports. We also aim to create a report design environment that is both powerful and intuitive so that it appeals to both the advanced and the first-time report developer.
2. Does this mean the iReport Designer is no longer supported or being enhanced?
No. iReport will continue to be enhanced and supported in addition to the new Jaspersoft Studio product.
3. Can I edit reports I designed with iReport?
Yes, Jaspersoft Studio is a port of iReport on top of the Eclipse platform and its core is JasperReports. This means that your reports can be edited using both Jaspersoft Studio and iReport report designers.
4. Which Eclipse releases does Jaspersoft Studio work with?
The plugin version of Jaspersoft Studio can be installed on Eclipse IDE 3.5 or later. The compatible Eclipse releases are Indigo, Helios and Galileo.
5. If I’m a Jaspersoft Commercial customer, can I get support for Jaspersoft Studio now?
Jaspersoft Studio v1.0 is a community project release and is not officially supported with Jaspersoft commercial products. We’ve performed several tests to ensure reports developed in Jaspersoft Studio will work with our server products, so if you do use the new Eclipse product, we feel pretty confident it will work with the majority of use cases. We expect a commercially supported version of Jaspersoft Studio to be available early next year.
